The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), established in 1984 in Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh, India, is an autonomous technical institute under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, with the status of a deemed-to-be university. Nestled amid the lush greenery and rolling hills of the Eastern Himalayas, its campus offers a serene and picturesque environment conducive to learning and exploration. It operates a unique modular system of education, offering programs from the base (certificate) level through diploma to degree modules in engineering and technology, as well as postgraduate courses like M.Tech, MBA, MSC and Ph.D. programs.

To date, numerous PhD degrees have been awarded. Currently, there are many full-time and part-time PhD scholars enrolled. Additionally, several research laboratories have been established across various departments.

NERIST has successfully completed a significant number of sponsored research projects and is currently managing multiple ongoing ones. The funding agencies include organizations such as CSIR, MHRD, MOEF, MoWR, DST, AICTE, ICAR, DBT, MOEF – GB Pant, NMHS-GBPNIHESD, SERB, ITRA (MeiTy), SAC (ISRO), Coconut Development Board, ICSSR, and NECTAR.
