While in the region, you can explore various nearby tourist attractions. Visit the Ita Fort and the Gompa in Itanagar for a glimpse into the region’s rich history and spirituality. Inner Line Permit

Visitors to Arunachal Pradesh are required to obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP), an official travel document issued by the state government. This permit regulates the entry of Indian citizens into protected areas for a limited period.

Obtaining an ILP:

The ILP can be obtained through the following methods:

  • Online Application: Visit the official Arunachal Pradesh ILP portal at https://eilp.arunachal.gov.in/ to apply online.

  • In-Person Application: Apply at designated offices located in major cities such as Kolkata, Guwahati, Tezpur, and New Delhi.

Validity:

For temporary visitors, the ILP is typically valid for 15 days and can be extended if necessary.

Important Notes:

  • Ensure you carry the ILP at all times during your stay in Arunachal Pradesh, as it may be checked by authorities.

  • Apply for the ILP well in advance of your planned travel dates to accommodate processing times.

Itanagar

Itanagar:
It is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh which is dotted with archeological sites of great historical value. There are also institutions of great socio-cultural significance.

Tourist Hotspots:

Gekar Sinyi (Ganga Lake) –
A beautiful natural lake surrounded by landmass of hard rock. The name Gekar Sinyi means ‘confined water’.

Jawaharlal Nehru Museum-
The museum has a rich collection of textiles, weaponry, household articles and handicrafts that reflect the tribal culture and heritage of Arunachal Pradesh.

Craft Centre & Emporium-
Located at Itanagar, here one can see and buy local artifacts like wall painting, traditional costumes made of natural vegetable and herbal dye yarns, and attractive utility items made of cane and bamboo.Zoological Park (Zoo) – Located at Chimpu, the park has a variety of fauna including avi-fauna species. Indira Gandhi Park- It is a popular park located at Itanagar

Polo Park-
It is a small botanical garden located on top of a ridge at Naharlagun (the twin capital city).

The city is named after the irregular shaped Itafort (the fort of bricks) which is a centre of attraction located within the heart of Itanagar. The bricks used in the fort with total brickwork of 16,200 cubic metre length dates back to the 14th-15th Century. According to some scholars, these bricks are similar with those made during the reign of Ramachandra of Mayapur who was a king of the Jitari Dynasty.

Ziro

Ziro:
It is 167 km from Itanagar. Ziro, which is the headquarters of lower Subansiri district, is located 1500 metres above sea level. It is a beautiful hill station as well as one of the oldest towns of the state. Mainly inhabited by the Apatani tribe, this valley is rich in biological diversity. Both sub-tropical and alpine forests are found here along with various types of flora and fauna. The town wears a festive look during festivals celebrated by the Apatani people.

Talley Valley:

It is a wildlife sanctuary as well as a bio-diversity hotspot located at a distance of 32 kms from Ziro towards the north east. Comprising sub-tropical and alpine forests it has a variety of flora and fauna, many of which are endangered. The place offers great trekking opportunities.

Talley Valley Reserved Forest and Talle Wildlife sanctuary is situated at an elevated level with rivers like Pange, Sipu, Karing and Subansiri flowing through the Reserved Forest and Sanctuary. It is home to highly endangered species like clouded leopard. Pleioblastus simone is a bamboo variety only found in Talley Valley.

Shiva Lingam at Kardo Forest:
There is a 25 ft tall and 22 ft wide Shiva lingam in Kardo forest which is located 4 kms from Hapoli town. Large number of devotees throng the spot everyday which was accidently discovered in July 2004

Ziro Valley, nestled in Arunachal Pradesh, is home to two notable lakes—Seeh Lake and Siikhe Lake—each offering unique experiences for visitors.

Seeh Lake: Located in the serene Biirii village, Seeh Lake is a man-made reservoir that has become a recent attraction in Ziro Valley. The lake is surrounded by lush greenery, providing a tranquil setting for visitors seeking peace and natural beauty. A recent initiative to enhance the area included a mass tree plantation drive around the lake, aiming to boost its appeal and environmental significance.

Siikhe Lake: Recognized as the first artificial lake of Arunachal Pradesh, Siikhe Lake is situated approximately 2.5 kilometers from Hapoli town in Ziro Valley. This high-altitude lake is known for its unspoiled beauty, offering a peaceful retreat away from more commercialized tourist spots. Its proximity to the town center makes it easily accessible for visitors looking to experience the serene environment and picturesque landscapes.

Both lakes contribute to the ecological diversity and tourism appeal of Ziro Valley, providing visitors with opportunities to connect with nature and experience the unique cultural landscape of the region.

Mechuka

Mechuka is a small town (sub-divisional headquarter) located in a picturesque valley near the Indo-Tibet border. During winters, one can get great views of the snow-clad mountains and snow fall.

BOMDILA-TAWANG

Tawang Monastery which is an important seat of Mahayana Buddhism is located here. This world-famous monastery of the Gelukpa was founded during the 17th century by Mera Lama Lodre Gyaltso who is considered as a contemporary of the 5th Dalai Lama. It is Asia’s second largest monastery and India’s largest which controls 17 Gompas in the region. The highlights of this monastery are the imposing three-storied assembly hall and the 28 ft high golden statue of Lord Buddha. There is also a big library which has an impressive collection of ancient books and manuscripts. The famous Buddhist gold inscribed scriptures
Kangyur and Tangyur are preserved here.

Another attraction of Tawang is the Urgyelling Monastery which is considered sacred as it is the birth place of Thangyang Gyatso, the sixth Dalai Lama. Bramadung Chung, Sengsarbu Ani Gompa, Gyanggong Ani Gompa are also well known nunneries and monasteries with the Ani Gompa being one of the oldest in the country.
There are also beautiful natural Lakes in Tawang like the Sangetsar Lake which is known for its scenic surroundings as well as rare avi-fauna like snow pigeon and musk deer and the PTso Lake for its picturesque landscape.
